This is an attractive and well-maintained campground, and the only problem we had was the over-zealous bathroom cleaning crews. They wait impatiently and obtrusively (some of them rudely) while customers use the bathrooms in the morning. The owner-managers should tell these employees to back off and preferably do their chores at a more appropriate time of day.
Previous reviews are accurate and fair. The campground served us well on an I-81 trip, and the service was friendly and helpful. The lack of a sewage dump in the main campground was surprising, but it was no real problem to drive a quarter-mile or so to a section where sewers are available.
Located very conveniently to Burlington, although it's uncomfortably close to a large high school, and its traffic and occasional noise problems. The bathhouse (pay showers) was adequate, but lacking amenities such as soap or towel hooks. My main objection was that despite the campground being close to empty, the staff assigned us a spot bunched right beside three other families. Of course we solved that problem by simply moving to another site with more privacy and no one knew the difference or had any reason to care.
If you don't need to use the bathhouses, you'll likely be well satisfied with the campground at this scenic, conveniently located county park. Unfortunately, the bathhouse is inadequate and poorly maintained -- for example, only one men's room toilet, which didn't flush; no toilet paper dispenser, and the tissue roll is placed on the dirty floor; no towel racks; no soap; no paper towels. Charge an extra couple of dollars if you must, but campers shouldn't have to put up with this sort of condition.
We found the campground welcoming, reasonably attractive and generally more than adequate. The cable TV selection was extremely limited, a big disappointment for those who want a reasonable choice of channels. Seems to me a campground should not advertise cable if it includes only a few unappealing channels.
Just returned from this park and enjoyed its scenery and mid-week serenity. I generally concur with the positive comments posted here but want to advise other prospective campers that this lake, attractive as it is, is not very suitable for swimming. It's OK to swim in places, and the water seems nice enough, but there aren't any beach areas or a sandy shoreline near the park. Also, beware of rocks and look out for fishhooks. I got a hook in a beach shoe and am mighty grateful I wasn't barefoot.
This one all depends on your tastes. We found it much too crowded and busy (on a weekend) but others, including many families, seemed to enjoy it well enough. A nearby state park would probably be a better alternative for those seeking peace and quiet.
Decent enough facilities for a state park, in a very attractive area of the country, but the roads in the area (including the highly touted scenic drive) are pathetic to the point of being dangerous. The residents of Michigan should be ashamed and should demand action. If they're that lacking for public funds, I would donate to the cause.
Typically well-designed and maintained Georgia state park, attractive in all respects. We were right on the scenic creek and saw deer come within a few feet. ... Only negative was the grumpy female ranger at check-in.
Nice location; ample sites; friendly and helpful management. Bathrooms and showers are primitive, small, cold and unattractive, but seem to be seldom used since most visitors have larger motorhomes and presumably use their own facilities. Sewer connection is too far away for some smaller campers to use, depending on the location and length of hose.
Small number of sites but a very attractive and well-kept state park in the fine Savannah River lakes area. Curiously, the most recent AAA guidebook says it has no showers, but it actually does. Also limited cable TV available.
